| Naming Conventions: Mountain Orc names are built to be heard over the whistling winds of a high-altitude pass. Their names are resonant and “long,” often favoring open vowel sounds that carry much further than the clipped, whispering sounds of their Deep Orc cousins. A Mountain Orc’s surname is rarely a family name, but a title earned through a vertical feat. In their culture, you are not truly “named” until you have proven you can handle the heights. i.e. Ghorum Cloud-Chaser, Thrakk Wind-Walker, Othor, Krayga, Mundar, Volyk, Ghara Peak-Slayer, Runa Ice-Gripper, Thrayle, Oskara, Vola |
Mountain Orcs are found in the high peaks of the Kodar Mountains or the World's Edge Mountains. These orcs have adapted to thin air, vertical terrain, and extreme cold. They are the masters of high-ground warfare. They are famous for using trained Rocs or giant vultures as mounts and for their skill in setting avalanches to wipe out enemies. They are often more isolated than Belkzen orcs and rarely trade with outsiders.
They often possess thicker, shaggier body hair and a “stockier” build to retain heat. Their skin tends toward darker, leathery tones to protect against the high-altitude sun. Many warriors grow long, wild manes of hair and thick, braided beards. These aren't just for fashion, but also provide vital insulation for the neck and face against mountain gales. Their hair is usually dark that ranges from black, deep brown, or a charcoal grey. However, elders often turn a striking “glacier white.”
